Using Mantras for a Positive Outlook on the Year Ahead
DR. KATE BACIGALUPO
The societal expectation of a new year and what it represents can be overwhelming for many. This is true, especially in the world we are living in, still dealing with a global pandemic and with Covid cases in NY continuing to surge after the holidays.
Reflecting over the past year, it may be hard to see the growth, healing, and positive change that occurred in 2021 despite the hardship. It may also feel overwhelming when thinking about goals for the year 2022.
This is where the concept of mantras can be helpful. A mantra is word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation, and is of Hindu origin. The concept can be applied to your mindset as well to aide in maintaining a positive outlook when approaching a new year, or any challenge ahead of you. Think of a mantra as the reminder you need to keep moving forward.
Here are five mantras to consider for the year ahead:
- I am stronger than I think.
- I am still healing.
- I am tired, yet patient.
- I forgive myself and others.
- We are all still learning.
As exhausting as this pandemic has been, there are still ways to move forward, and continue to learn, grow and heal. Sometimes we just need that little reminder.
If one of these resonates, take it and use it. Or choose one on your own that makes sense to your individual life and goals. Repeat it to yourself daily, especially on days when you are struggling the most.
